Last spot in Tourney

For those that are interested the last spot in the BRD softball tournament comes down to three tied teams. Smithfield,York, and Bruton are all 7-10 with Smithfield at Grafton,York at Southampton, and Poquoson at Bruton.Grafton beat Smithfield earlier in the season and is looking to protect 3rd place by winning.I am sure they will be pumped up for senior day.York should be able to stake their claim by beating Southampton, however the past two seasons Southampton has been able to split the two games.Poquoson is looking to win the district outright and should be ready to finish strong, however Bruton seems confident after their win against York now that Falin is healthy and seems to be pitching well.Unless someone knows different I am understanding that if two teams tie record wise for the last spot they will play head to head.If three teams tie there will be a three team head to head event.............Any predictions? Also I believe 3 berths come out of the tourney 1 and 2 from regular season and the highest finishing non qualifier from the tournament.Good luck to Graf,Poq,and most of all GO FALCONS!!!!!!!!!!On Tues.Whatever happens on Tues it says alot about the BRD to have the season come down to the last game between 3 teams .I would like to congradulate all 8 teams that have made the BRD one of the best districts in the state.

Re: Last spot in Tourney

This is exactly why the 6 team playoff format is best. If we used an 8 team format then none of these games would even matter.

If two teams tie for 6th then they do have a playoff with those two teams. If three teams tie I have no idea what they might do to break the three-way tie (this almost happened last year too). I can't believe they would have the three teams playing each other in a round robin format (seems like too many games and they could still end in a tie). I think they will use some method to get it back down to two teams then have one playoff game. Just my guess.

Also, if Bruton beats Poquson then Poquson and New Kent would have a playoff game to decide who is champ. If Smithfield beats Grafton and Lafayette beats Tabb then there would be a tie for 3rd place and may require a playoff game. The BRD certainly keeps it interesting.

I believe that the third regional birth goes to the 3rd place team unless the 4th, 5th or 6th wins the whole tournament. For example, if the 5th place team loses in the championship game to the 1st place team then the 3rd place team still gets the regional birth.
